Mary "Fran" Frances Morris

Jan 14, 1941 Nov 17, 2018

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Frances Morris, Fran. She is also affectionately known as “Grammy” and “Kizzy.” Fran passed away suddenly due to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Fran was born on January 14, 1941, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to Raymond Hugh Winstead and Minnie Lorena Gardner. Her childhood was full of hard work and fun with her 5 brothers, Jimmy (spouse Tammy) Winstead, Don Winstead, Cecil Winstead, Richard Winstead, Floyd (AKA Buck) Winstead, and Terry (Alla) Winstead and one sister, Barbara Ball (spouse Floyd). Fran’s childhood was humble yet full of happiness and fun with her siblings. Everyone has fond memories of her pranks and laughter.

On February 22, 1957, Fran married the love of her life, Wayne Thomas Morris, in Dortches, North Carolina. Soon after she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in August 1963, she was sealed to Wayne as eternal companions in the Logan, Utah Temple. The young couple first lived in the Holliday area and, with two babies in tow, often tell about the fond memories of the beautiful people who helped them get settled and assisted them in their first Utah Christmas. Later, they moved to Bountiful and lived many years in West Bountiful, raising their tribe of 6 rambunctious children. Each child has exciting memories of traveling across the county from Utah to North Carolina and back in vehicles like a 1965 VW Bug! They were married for 61 adventurous years!

Fran was a great woman of faith in God and her Savior, Jesus Christ. While her stature was diminutive, her spirit and faith were giants. She was happy to be a wife and mother and was the glue that kept the family together. She joyfully provided for every need of her eternal companion and her 6 children. The stories are endless. Fran had many talents. She was an accomplished painter and published writer. She faithfully kept a journal that brings the past vividly back to life, many things that would have been long forgotten if it weren’t for her dedication. She loved to write poetry and short stories. She loved the old movies and had favorites she shared with each of her children. She also loved photography with her family being her favorite subject (which is evident by the thousands of photos we get to sift through).

Fran is survived by her loving husband Wayne Thomas Morris and her six children: Daughters Robbin Muir, Julie (spouse Lance) Strosser, Mindy (spouse Paul) Andersen and Sons, Michael (spouse Jacquie) Morris, Jefferson (AKA Jeff) Morris, and Jonathon (aka Jonny or Jon-Jon) Morris. They have 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
