Our beloved Agapito (Gapi) Gonzales Bernal passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 7th, 2025. Agapito was born May 14, 1949, in Sabinas Coahuila, Mexico to Dominga and Rodolfo Bernal.
Agapito grew up in Midland Texas for the younger part of his life. His family would then move to Idaho and work back and forth between Idaho and Utah. Later, he settled in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Gapi had an amazing work ethic, his whole life was dedicated to working hard. He worked at Fleetwood Homes and Northern Nevada Construction to name a couple. He loved working hard and being outside. In the early 2000’s he started landscaping for Somerset in Farmington. He loved the area so much that he decided he would move there and call it home.
Gapi loved baseball, he grew up playing baseball with his brothers and cousins and then coached the kids when he was older. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the ballpark on Sundays and watching a good ol’ game of ball. He also loved playing pool. He played in tournaments, and his love for football was a one of a kind. The Dallas Cowboys was his all-time team. Gapi could also be counted on for making his rounds on Sundays from Farmington to Salt Lake to go to his daughter’s house to bring donuts, fruits and any other goodies he would have. Donuts were one of his favorite treats. When ever he went to his daughter's house, the grandkids always knew “grandpa has donuts" it was the best.
Gapi had friends everywhere he went. People would run over to his truck for hugs or handshakes, or just to have a good ol conversation. Gapi was all about his family no matter what time he showed up he was just happy to see you. Everyone always said “GAPI” with a big smile.
Gapi taught people “we should never stoop to their level” instead, “shut it down and walk away.” Gapi was the most pure hearted, kind, and fun-loving soul. Now he can run, play baseball, play a good game a pool, and he has all the energy in the world for his shenanigans.
Gapi is survived by his seven children: Agapito Bonilla Bernal, Agapito Paul Bernal, Gabriel Bernal, Alicia Marisol Bernal Medellin, Luis Angel Bernal, John Coleman and Matthew Coleman along with 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, his siblings: Antonio Gonzales, Juan Bernal, Gerardo Bernal, Leticia Bernal Gomez and Rudy Bernal. He is preceded in death by his parents: Dominga Gonzalez Bernal and Rodolfo Bernal, his siblings: Yolanda Gonzales Aguirre, Armando (Weddo) Bernal and Ralph Bernal, and his grandson Issac Ismael Bernal.
