Allan Larsen Arveseth

Mar 24, 1941 Aug 7, 2024

Allan Larsen Arveseth passed away on August 7th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Allan was born March 24th, 1941, to Leif Willard Francis Larsen Arveseth and Anne Marie Schmidt in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Allan worked in many fields including photography, real estate, retail sales, silk screening, and as security for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

One of his favorite jobs in photography was working as a photographer for Sundance and Robert Redford on the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie premier and at the opening of Sundance Resort. Some of his photos still hang in the Tree Room at Sundance.

He was very involved with his community in a volunteer capacity, including a service mission for the LDS Church as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Welfare Square. His service mission kept being extended because he was such an incredible teacher and truly excelled in that capacity. He was an active member of the LDS church and had a deep testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ.

He was a volunteer archaeologist for the State of Utah, was a Volunteer Examiner for Amateur Radio license examinations, and taught HAM radio classes. Because of him hundreds of people have their HAM radio licenses. Allan was a gifted makeup artist and enjoyed doing theater makeup for school events while at the University of Utah, for many high school musicals and plays, and for various neighborhood events throughout the years. The queues for his artistry were long on Halloween evening.

Allan served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1964 under the Air National Guard and was a true patriot, through and through. Donations in his honor can be made to Hillsdale College,

Allan had a quick wit and impeccable manners. He always had a witty response, which kept dinner conversations entertaining, to say the least. His table manners served him well when he was invited as a photographer with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to The National Day of Bolivia at HemisFair ’68 with René Berrientos Ortuño, the President of the Republic of Bolivia and United States President Lyndon B. Johnson. He dined with these heads of state with perfect confidence and was very proud of that.

Allan is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 60 years, Mary Lou Michelsen Arveseth. He was the Darling of Delta Gamma sorority at the U of U while courting her and took thousands of photos of her sorority sisters during their various activities. Allan and Mary Lou were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 3, 1964.

Allan is the father of 4 amazing children who were vitally important to him. He prayed for them fervently every day. He is survived by his son Erik (Eric Long) Arveseth, son Michael (Leisha) Arveseth, son Jed Arveseth (who passed away in 2009), his daughter Emily (Bart) Hoerner, his granddaughters Brynja Arveseth and Aislinn Arveseth, whom he loved so very much, his sister Mona McGuire, and his dog Dottie.

Allan was a friend to everyone and was often seen waving at people as he drove through the neighborhood. He was so loved and will be missed more than words can express.
