Long time resident of Riverton, UT passed away from a massive stroke on August 21, 2025 in Polson, MT. Born in Missoula, MT on November 21, 1941, son of Verner J Person and Irene Kluk. Raised in Florence, MT, and spent summers in Ingomar, MT on his grandparents’ ranch.

Arnold served in the US Navy from 1959-1964 with the Air Development Squadron in Key West, FL. He was involved in air surveillance during the Cuban Missile Crisis, where he used his training in radar navigation equipment to search for enemy submarines. While in the military, he was also trained as an electrical technician, and those skills served him well throughout his professional and personal life.

After the military, he worked at the Ampex Corporation in Redwood City, CA for more than 20 years, where he worked with the team developing the Instant Replay system used for sporting events. Arnold later moved to Utah, where he worked at Bosch Phillips Corporation (which later became Broadcast Television Systems or BTS) for many years. He eventually moved on to Harmon Music Group, and then finally to Northrup Grumman.

Arnold loved playing basketball, and competed in the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, UT for many years. He was a member of the Riverton City American Legion Post 140, serving for 30 years, some of them as Vice Commander.

Survived by his wife of 60 years Beverly Person, daughter Valerie Williams Kay (deceased), her children Heather Aviles, Ryan Aviles (deceased) and Jonathan Aviles (deceased), Heather’s children Angela Avila, Corrina Luna, and Mark Luna, Corrina’s son Mateo, (estranged) son Arnold W Person II, his children Veronica, Rachelle and Landon, Veronica’s daughter Everleigh DeCent, son Matthew G Person, his partner Allison Evans and daughter Katherine Evans, daughter Reagan O’Neill, her spouse Sean and children Riley and Conor and family friend Layne Medeiros, sister Vera Funk, her partner Russ Gerek, sister Dagnie Empey, sister Arlene Nicolet, brother Vern Person, and his wife Marlene.

Proceeded in death by his parents Verner and Irene, daughter Valerie, grandsons Ryan and Jonathan, brother John and his wife Janet, and brothers-in-law Richard Funk, Norman Empey, and Roy Nicolet.

Riverton residents may remember seeing Arnold walking his dogs Titan and Lucy twice a day, every day, regardless of the weather.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, August 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park located at 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065.
