Barbara Jean Wight Watkins

Jul 4, 1938 Sep 8, 2024

Barbara Jean Wight Watkins 86, passed away September 8, 2024. She was born on July 4, 1938 (yes, she was a fire cracker!) in Salt Lake City, the second of four children to Sadie Venema and Charles Ora Wight.

Barbara was raised in Salt Lake City, and attended Olympus High School. The family moved to Murray Utah where she met and fell in love with David Amundsen Watkins! They were married on April 3, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have three children Robert (Vicky), Alan (Leslie) and Karen. They lived in Salt Lake City, then moved to Murray. Dave was transferred to California, so the family moved. They lived in Camarillo for many years. They moved to Flagstaff, AZ where Dave began his wood working career. Then about 30 years ago they moved to Toquerville. In addition to being a homemaker Barbara worked outside the home as a secretary as well as many typing jobs. She was a very fast and accurate typist!

Barbara had many callings in the church, Relief Society President, Primary Presidency, teacher and for the last 30 plus years she was a temple worker in addition to all her other callings.

Barbara loved to sew; in fact, she made her wedding dress! She also loved to crochet, and was very good. Barbara played the organ, and loved to play for others. She also took lessons. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses. Sister Linda (David), many grandchildren and grand grandchildren. Many cousins. She is proceeded in death by her spouse David (January 17, 2022), both her parents, her oldest sister (Alice) and only brother (Charles).

Thank you to all the members of the Toquerville Ward who picked Barbara up for church each Sunday for the last 3 years. We know of the hardship it put you through to come and get her and then take her back to the Beehive House, Thank you!

A very special thank you to the Staff at the Beehive House. Kathy and Nikki, her long time CNA's who took such great care of her. The IHC doctors and nurses at St George Hospice unit who took care of her.

Viewing and Funeral service will be Saturday September 21, 2024. Viewing 10:00 - 11:15 and Funeral at 11:30 at the Toquerville 2nd Ward Building, 63 Toquerville Blvd, Toquerville, UT.
