Beverly passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 in her home in Sandy, UT at the age of 98. She was born in Draper, UT on September 18, 1926 to James Daniel and Sally Margaret McGee Washburn. She is survived by her children: Teryle (Bob) Caswell, Carol Ann (Roger) Brown, Jana (Mark – deceased) Holyoak, Jeff (Kimberly) Hinds, Jason (Jennifer) Hinds, 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Herbert J. Hinds (husband), Sheryle Hinds McVey (daughter), Kevin Herbert Hinds (son), her parents and siblings (Neta, Emily, Mryl, LaVar, Guy, Clem, and Bruce).

While working as a secretary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Presiding Bishop’s Office, she met Herbert J. Hinds. He had come down from Canada to play in a church basketball tournament. Many love letters were exchanged while Herb was living in Canada and later while serving a mission. Soon after his return, they married March 2, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple, performed by Elder David O. McKay, and were married for 66 years. Their life began in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, but after two and half years, they moved back to Holladay, UT (24 yrs). Then they transferred to Claremont, CA (7 yrs), and Cypress, TX (4 yrs) before again returning to Utah, where Sandy became home for 36 yrs [1988-2025]. Everywhere they lived, Beverly made life-long friends.

The gospel played an important part in Beverly’s life. She enjoyed each calling she was given and loved to share her faith with others. Aside from her faith in Jesus Christ, she valued family and friends the most. Service to family and others was a big part of her life whether it was making hats for Primary Children’s Hospital, quilting, sewing, or even just visiting. She gave and shared in abundance, without hesitation or expectation of anything in return.

Beverly had many interests and hobbies. She loved to tend to her garden to ensure the beauty of her surroundings. One of the bounties of her efforts was her famous canned peaches, of which many enjoyed. She was a voracious reader her entire life and shared that love of reading with any who would hear. Playing and teaching games to others was a highlight of her life. The time spent with loved ones and the laughter during these games brought her immense joy.

She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, teacher, friend and confidant. She touched and imparted her wisdom on everyone she encountered. Her positive and gracious outlook on life never wavered. Beverly embodied everything good and kind. We will celebrate and hold her memory in our hearts forever.
