It is with the deepest sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, son and brother Bret Russell Whetman on April 12, 2025. Words cannot express the emptiness our family feels without him, our hearts are truly shattered.
Bret was born on October 17, 1965 in Bountiful, Utah but spent most of his life in West Jordan, Utah. After serving a mission to Rio de Janeiro Brazil, he continued his education at University of Utah and later graduated from University of Phoenix. Before graduating, he met the love of his life, Lisa and they were married on July 20, 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple.
The following year they welcomed a son, Mitchell and soon after, their daughter Whitney arrived. Bret reveled in being a husband and father, it was his greatest joy. He gave it his all in providing for, nurturing and loving his family in every way possible. Many memories were made by attending and coaching his children's sporting events, sitting around a campfire roasting smores or fighting for the title of Trampball Champ for the evening. He was and will forever be our hero.
Bret spent 13 years serving in Higher Education as an Assistant Campus Director for Independence University but most of his career was in banking, excelling in every position from Branch Manager to Private Banking and Treasury Management while making many long-standing relationships with all that he served. He was also a very talented woodworker and painter, always enhancing every home he owned and making it a little piece of heaven for his family.
Bret is survived by his loving wife Lisa, his son Mitchell (Cassandra) Whetman, his beautiful first grandchild Nashton Bret Whetman, sister Chris (Garey) Wilson, step-mother Dorothy Whetman, sister Cindy (Blake) Benson, brother Jeff (Rhonda) Percell, brother Mike (Sherry) Percell, brother Steven (Rachael) Whetman, sister Leslie Percell and many nieces and nephews.
Bret is preceded in death by his daughter Whitney, whom he missed immensely and we are taking comfort in knowing that she is in his arms once again, his father Paul Whetman, mother Sharon Whetman and sister Tina Whetman.
In honoring Bret's wishes, a small family gathering will be held in the near future.
