Carol Kay Buie

Sep 22, 1951 Jan 16, 2025

On January 16, 2025, Carol Kay Buie passed away peacefully, at home, with her partner, Jan, by her side. Kay was born on September 21, 1951 in Salt Lake City, one of five children and the only daughter of Bob and Carol Buie. She grew up in the Holladay and Mount Olympus neighborhoods of Salt Lake City. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1970. Kay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a full-time mission in North Carolina.

Kay had a long career working in the family business, Child Related Research. She began working for Child Related Research in Salt Lake; eventually, moving to Long Beach, California where she helped to establish and grow the business in the greater Los Angeles area. Kay worked closely with her brother, Mike, during her years of working for the family business.

Kay was known for her friendliness, kindness and the delight she showed for life with her infectious laugh. She loved her dogs, that she walked daily in the neighborhood, visiting with everyone she met. She was always willing to share with others, whether it be of her time, space or work. She loved traveling with Jan to places near and far. They had memorable trips to Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland, Hawaii, San Francisco and the Grand Canyon; along with many trips to Utah and San Diego.

Even though she lived in Long Beach for most of her adult life, she always remembered the "boys", her brothers. Her brothers remember Kay for her kindness, resilience in adversity, her smile and her bit of mischievousness. Kay was much loved by her many nieces, nephews and her sisters-in-law.

Kay was very close to her mother, Carol. She must have had a glorious reunion with her mother and father who preceded her in death over twenty years ago.

Kay is survived by her partner, Janet Estes, Long Beach, California; her four brothers and their wives, Kent and Connie, Midway, Utah; Scott and Leianne, Ivins, Utah; Mike and Patrece, Salt Lake City, Utah, Todd and Jackie, Lehi, Utah, and her many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind cousins and many friends.

The family is grateful for the loving care and devotion given to Kay by Jan, and the several caregivers who helped care for Kay, that allowed her to remain at home thru her many years suffering from Alzheimer's and other health concerns.

A Celebration of Life in Kay's honor will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 12 Noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4635 South Lanark Road (3315 East) Salt Lake City, Utah. Pink was Kay's favorite color. If you like, wear something pink in her honor.
