Charles "Chuck" Favour Abbott, Jr.

Oct 12, 1937 Jan 6, 2025

Charles Favour Abbott, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and friend passed away on January 6, 2025. He was surrounded by loved ones, which was also how he spent much of his life, as he, alongside his wife, Oranee, excelled at bringing people together for fun and celebration--they were the best party planners, and turned the most tedious of tasks into a party.

Affectionately known as “Chuck” throughout his life, Charles was born on October 12, 1937, in Sedro-Woolley, Washington to Charles Favour Abbott, Sr. and Violette Boulter Abbott. He was deeply fond of his hometown and took great pride in providing “walking tours” of Sedro-Woolley for his kids and grandkids. Perhaps his fondness for the small Washington town stemmed from the fact that it was where he met the love of his life, Oranee Harward. They were married on September 19, 1958.

Their married life started in Washington, as Chuck pursued degrees at the University of Washington, where he eventually earned his law degree in 1962. They moved their growing family to Escondido, California, where Chuck started his own law practice. During this time, Chuck also ventured into the antique auction business with his parents, one of many ventures Chuck would pursue, and excel at, in his life. He became a renowned auctioneer, and in later years, often used his skill as a volunteer auctioneer to benefit numerous people and organizations through charitable events across Utah, and across the nation.

He was a “Chuck-of-all-trades,” and a master of anything he put his mind to, with a project always in the works. From his legal practice, to various entrepreneurial endeavors, to owning and operating a chain of frozen yogurt stores, to authoring and publishing several books, to running a telemarketing company with over 300 employees, to founding several other businesses, he was always busy with work, but he always put his family first. While he had a brilliant mind, he always maintained his sense of humor, as one of his published works was entitled, “Everything I Understand About Women,” and included only blank pages. We will always fondly remember the occasional call for the “advocate publishers,” because Chuck could even make stuffing envelopes fun.

Since he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 20, a decision he often cited as one of the best of his life, alongside marrying Oranee, he was deeply involved with his various wards, and the larger community. Throughout his life, he served in various church callings, with a particular passion for teaching and mentoring teenagers, positively impacting many young lives, and even setting some Guinness World Records with them along the way.

Chuck loved boating, especially at Lake Powell, where he shared countless trips with family and friends from 1976 until his final visit in 2021. He has passed that love along to his children and grandchildren. While both Chuck and Oranee enjoyed exploring the world, especially with their kids and grandkids, they never tired of Lake Powell trips, which Chuck considered one of the best places on earth. Despite their travels, their priority was to create a home where children, grandchildren and friends loved to spend time. Their house was always the party house.

Throughout his life, Chuck battled Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). HHT impacted many of his loved ones, which led Chuck, the consummate problem-solver, to become a driving force for the establishment of CureHHT, a charitable organization dedicated to funding research for treatments and, hopefully, a cure for HHT.

Charles Favour Abbott, Jr. will be remembered for his enduring contributions to his community, his unwavering faith, and the love and support he provided to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and dedication. He was always ready with a joke, and had a larger-than-life personality where the sky was the limit with any endeavor that would inevitably turn into a fun adventure.

He is survived by his four children, Nelson Abbott (Kirstin), Cindi Pearce (Brad), Lisa Jensen (Kib) and Ali Conger (Dave), sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Oranee, his daughter Patti, his son Stephen, his grandchildren Ashley, Brady, Rachel, and Sarah, and his brother Phil. While we are saddened at our loss, we are grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ that gives us the assurance that he is reunited with them for eternity, especially Oranee, who passed away in 2020, after 62 years together.

His funeral will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at 4525 North Canyon Road, Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held immediately beforehand from 9:30- 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made to curehht.org, a cause that Chuck and Oranee were both passionate about.
