Christian Patrick Wright

May 21, 1990 May 15, 2026

Christian Patrick Wright passed away on May 15, 2026, as the result of a paragliding accident. He was born on May 21, 1990, in Provo, Utah to Kevin Patrick Wright and Janet Marie Hannah. As a third-generation Eagle Scout, he attended Pine View High School in St. Geroge, Utah, where he played percussion in the marching band and graduated in 2008.

He then joined the Marine Corps Reserve, planning to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but soon after receiving a call to the Australia Brisbane Mission, he received orders to deploy with his unit to Afghanistan as a radio communications specialist and postponed his Church service.

After returning to the United States following his one-year deployment, he faithfully completed his two-year religious mission, which was especially poignant and compelling for him considering the loss of two faithful friends in Afghanistan who would not be able to complete their church missions. Christian then completed his active reserve military contract and held the rank of sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge in 2016.

Christian married the love of his life, Becky Jean Ker, in the Salt Lake Temple on April 13, 2013, and they welcomed three beautiful and beloved children: Kenzlyn Jean, Alexa Nicole, and Colsen Trace. He was heartbroken when they later divorced.

Christian obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University in 2019 and earned a Master of Business Administration from the same institution in 2024.

Professionally, he worked as an IT administrator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Zions Bank, and most recently, Rocky Mountain ATV.

He was a charismatic, pragmatic, and adventurous soul who thrived outdoors competing in extreme sports. As a runner he paced his brother on the St. George Marathon, ran the Wasatch 100 Ultramarathon three times, and ran the Grand Canyon rim to rim. Back country skiing, ice climbing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and paragliding provided additional avenues to enjoy his great zest for life. Some examples of his climbing accomplishments include scaling El Capitan in Yosemite National Park and climbing Devil’s Tower, always surrounded by great friends.

Wanting to share his love of climbing with the newer generation, he joyfully taught climbing classes at Momentum Indoor Climbing, always emphasizing safety. In 2023 he began

volunteering with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, often putting his own life at risk to rescue or recover others. His stories were always intriguing and educational, and he was a hero to many. To know him was to love him.

Christian loved the gospel and especially enjoyed teaching the plan of salvation. As an active member of the Church, he served for several years as a youth leader and was serving most recently in an elders quorum presidency. He was also a very supportive father, nurturing his children and ensuring their growth and development. Although he wasn’t a man of many words, he left a powerful example of Christ-like living and consecrated service.

Christian was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Tracy Dean Wright, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Marian Ruth Hurst; four uncles: Tracy Dean Wright, Jr., Glen Vincent Wright, Courtney Dean Wright, and Brian William Hannah; and an aunt, Janet Faith Wright. He is survived by his parents of Salt Lake City, UT; a brother, Bronson McKay (Majere’) Wright of St. George, UT; and a sister, Kristina Marie (Logan) Wagstaff of Stoughton, WI; and numerous extended family members.
