Colleen Davis McDonald

Dec 29, 1953 Feb 7, 2025

Colleen Davis McDonald, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 7, 2025 in Draper, Utah. She was born December 29, 1953 to LeRoy and Maurine Davis, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the fourth of five children.

Colleen attended West High School, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member of the West High gymnastics team. After high school she pursued cosmetology and earned her license in the field. Shortly after cosmetology school, Colleen met Michael S. McDonald, a young Navy sailor who lived just two blocks away. Their first meeting at a church dance led to a whirlwind romance; after only two weeks of courtship, they became engaged. They were married on February 16, 1973, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a loving family and shared a deep commitment to their faith.

Colleen was an accomplished pianist who also played the organ and marimba. Despite challenges with her hearing, she remained devoted to developing her musical talents throughout her life. She especially loved playing hymns and Christmas music and often served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by playing the piano and organ. Her faith was central to her life; she had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, and of prophets. One of her most cherished experiences was serving a mission alongside her husband in 2016-2018, a calling she found deeply rewarding.

A lifelong learner, Colleen expanded her skills in sign language, music, sewing, cooking, and later typing and data entry. She worked for 25 years at the Utah State Tax Commission and Motor Vehicle Department.

Above all else, Colleen treasured her role as a grandmother. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Grace, Chase, Baylen, McKenna, Payton, Bryce, Ashtyn, Drew, Brynlee, Jason, Charlotte, Andrew, and Alex. She loved to babysit, dye Easter Eggs, Sunday dinners, have fun sleepovers, and always showered them with gifts and fun for birthdays and holidays.

She also played an instrumental role in ensuring her older sister Yvonne received the best care in her final days. She loved serving others and did so selflessly.

Colleen is survived by her beloved husband Michael S. McDonald; their children Michael L. (Liz) McDonald, Aaron (Jenny) McDonald, Becky (Jake) Whitley, Heather (Ryan) Floyd, and Adam (Jessica) McDonald; as well as her cherished grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Duane Davis and Steve Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Yvonne and Marilyn.
