Cynthia (“Cindy”) Berg Palmer passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. She faced many health challenges in the years preceding her death, but she faced these challenges with strength and dignity, and she maintained her cheerful spirit and radiant smile to the very end. Throughout her 75 years, Cindy touched countless lives with her kindness, humor, and unwavering perseverance. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Cindy was born on August 28, 1950, to Frank Carl Berg and Beatrice Romney. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and enjoyed a happy childhood and the years that followed, surrounded by a loving family and dear friends. She attended junior high school in Frankfurt, Germany while her father helped oversee the construction of chapels there for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She later attended high school in Indiana while her father served as president of the Great Lakes Mission.
After returning from Indiana, Cindy enrolled at Highland High School, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Brent Lawrence Palmer. Their first date was at the Highland graduation dance, and from that day on, they were inseparable. They were married on November 23, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, loyalty, and deep devotion to one another.
Cindy and Brent made their home in Sandy, Utah, where they lovingly raised their four children—Justin, Ashley, Cameron, and Bryan. Cindy devoted her life to her family and was a kind, patient, and wonderful mother. Her home was always a welcoming place, filled with laughter, friends, and countless happy memories. Cindy was not one to seek attention or recognition, but she was the quiet, steady presence whose love and strength held her family together.
Cindy was not only an extraordinary mother, but also a beloved grandmother. She shared a unique and special bond with each of her 14 grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to support them at their many sporting events and dance recitals. She especially loved spending time with them at the family cabin in the Wasatch Mountains, where she enjoyed taking them on walks through the woods and motorcycle rides to see deer, elk, and moose.
Cindy worked at Alta High School for more than 20 years as secretary to the principal. She loved her work at Alta and especially enjoyed interacting with the students, whose lives she brightened with her kindness, warmth, and genuine interest in others. To know Cindy was to love her, and over the years she formed many cherished and lasting friendships with her co-workers. Her welcoming nature, quick sense of humor, and willingness to help others made her a beloved presence at the school.
Cindy devoted her life to serving others, most especially through her lifelong faith and service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many church callings, including in the Relief Society, Young Women, Sunday School, and Primary organizations. Among her most treasured opportunities to serve were the 13 years she spent alongside her husband as a service missionary at Temple Square and later with FamilySearch. Cindy lovingly and wholeheartedly fulfilled these callings, finding great joy in serving others and sharing her testimony. She had a deep and abiding testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which guided, strengthened, and sustained her throughout her life.
Cindy is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years and by her children and their spouses: Justin and Kristen Palmer, Ashley and Kirk Rasmussen, Cameron and Allison Palmer, and Bryan and Jodi Palmer. She is also survived by her brother, Frank David Berg. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Judith Lee Merrill and Pat Wade.
Cindy will be deeply missed by her 14 grandchildren: Justin and Kristen Palmer (Alex {Cassidy}, James {Kylee}, and Ava), Ashley and Kirk Rasmussen (Matthew, Palmer, William, and Benjamin), Cameron and Allison Palmer (Mason, Dillon, Auston, and Colemon), and Bryan and Jodi Palmer (Jack {Jorja}, Noah, and Liv).
We extend our sincere gratitude to our family, friends, and medical providers for their compassion and support in helping ensure Cindy’s final weeks were as comfortable as possible.
