David "Dave" E. Dalbey

Nov 14, 1957 Jul 30, 2024

David E. Dalbey, 66, of Layton, Utah, passed away in his home on July 30, 2024. Born on November 14, 1957, in Urbana, Illinois, to the late Raymond E. Dalbey and Norma Jean Dalbey, Dave grew up in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and graduated from Champaign Central High in 1974.

After high school, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably on active duty for two years. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his discharge, Dave worked for Coldwell Systems, Inc., where he eventually became the 3rd shift plant supervisor. Following Coldwell’s acquisition by Deluxe Check, Inc., Dave moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he continued in the same role before retiring several years later. He also worked at Hill Air Force Base in Building 265 in the F-16 Wing Shop, retiring from that position in 2018.

Dave married Laura Blair on October 30, 1983. They were partners in life until Laura passed away in September 2020 following a battle with COVID-19. Dave was profoundly affected by Laura’s loss but found comfort in his friends, family, and hobbies, which included collecting guns, watching the Chicago Bears, and playing pool and poker with his friends in Utah.

Dave’s passion for shooting and the outdoors led him to become an active member of the Hill AFB Rod & Gun Club, where he was a frequent participant in trap shooting, often seen practicing or volunteering to score for others. A skilled trap shooter and reloader, Dave enjoyed honing his craft and was known for his generous nature, frequently bringing gourmet snacks like smoked meats, cheese, jerky, and homemade chili to share with fellow club members. His sense of humor and easygoing demeanor made him a beloved presence at the club, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his two brothers, Scott A. Dalbey (Lisa) of Champaign, IL, and Brian E. Dalbey of St. Joseph, IL, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Laura.

Dave was a man who lived with quiet strength, a generous spirit, and a sharp wit. His presence brought joy and laughter to those around him, and he leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will cherish his memory.

Please join us to celebrate Dave’s life and enjoy some BBQ and a drink in his honor at the American Legion on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The address is 345 Depot Drive Clearfield, Utah 84015.
