David Lamont Malmrose, born on December 9, 1933, passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 91.
Dave was born in Brigham City, Utah to Hyrum Malmrose and Merle Goude Malmrose. He grew up working on an orchard with five siblings. Dave enrolled at the University of Utah in 1952, where he played freshman basketball. In 1953, he voluntarily enlisted in the Army during the draft, attending the High Speed Radio Operator School at Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was subsequently transferred to Seoul, Korea, where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of operations for the 452nd Communications Reconnaissance Group from 1955 to 1956. After completing his military service, Dave earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1959. He opened his own pharmacy in 1964 and became the owner and sole proprietor of Thrift City Pharmacy, Scot Superstores Pharmacy, and Dave's Thriftway Pharmacy until 1980. He dedicated his career to the pharmacy profession, ultimately retiring from the University of Utah in 2014.
Dave was passionate about sports, particularly enjoying watching the Utah Jazz and following University of Utah football. He would never say "no" to a chocolate malt from Red Robin or dipping his toast in coffee at Dee's. Dave was a loyal Cadillac owner and also took great pride in his yard and loved gardening. He was a man of few words, but those who listened closely would find a wealth of wisdom and humor in his occasional gems of advice and funny jokes that would take you by surprise.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Carmen Malmrose Lipp, Elden Malmrose, Donald Malmrose, Ray Malmrose, and Dale Malmrose. He is survived by his children; Roger Malmrose, Kirk Malmrose, Lori Carmack, Michael Malmrose, Mary (Cody) Leger, and David Jr. (Sydney) Malmrose; his former spouse, Susan Malmrose; step-children, Phil (Tabitha) Connell, Chris (Amiee) Connell, and Jed Kent; as well as numerous grandchildren.
