Dean Stanton Hamilton was called home on September 14th, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years old. He was born to Lorin Dean Hamilton and Norma Mae (Hamilton) Schow in Roosevelt, Utah on March 10, 1948. Dean served in the army reserve and subsequently served an LDS mission in the Southern States. Through his hard work, he built a successful roofing company (later known as Contract West Roofing Inc.) while attending the University of Utah. This was where he met the one his heart loved, Becky Sharp, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Dean and Becky had seven children, six daughters, and one son.
Dean was a dreamer, a builder, and a big-picture thinker. He was adventurous and loved spending time in the mountains. He loved sports and will forever hold the state record for the 880 yard race, awarded at the BYU Invitational for Skyline High School. (This was later changed to be the 800 meter race). He loved to read. He knew history and the scriptures well. He particularly loved to read church history and studying the life of Joseph Smith. He loved all kinds of animals and animals loved him, but he had a special love for birds and dogs. You would often see him with his little, white dog traveling around the town.
Dean had a great love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He touched countless lives as he served as a bishop and in several bishoprics for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dean and Becky served as Inner City missionaries together for the last seven years. Dean’s favorite calling in the church was as an advisor over many priests. He helped them understand what he always understood, that Christ brings peace. Most of the priests ended up preaching the gospel of Christ on full-time missions. He was a life-long missionary and friend to all. Everyone was always welcome in the Hamilton home.
Our dad was a true patriarch in every sense of the word. Nothing was more important to him than his family. He loved gathering us and spending time with us every Sunday night. Out of all of his accomplishments, which are many, he was most proud of his family. He took time to bond with each one of his grandchildren. He loved to take them fishing. They all knew how much grandpa loved them.
Dean is survived by his wife of 53 years, Becky; his sister Madeline Keith, his brothers, Sanford, Mark, and Paul; and his children, Rebecca Hoggan (Tom), Heather Hatch (David), Marianne Shaw (Darin), Kristine Gailey (David), Kimberly Broadhead (Matthew), Matthew Hamilton (Molly), Emily Park (Alex), and his 30 grandchildren. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Connie.
