Deborah "Debi" Carver Brooks

Oct 21, 1950 Feb 27, 2026

Our mom, Deborah (Debi) Carver Brooks passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026 after a courageous battle with liver and gallbladder cancer in Salt Lake City Utah.

Born October 21, 1950 in Salt Lake City to Wayne and Verna Carver.

Debi married Ronald (Ron) Brooks on December 19, 1967. They had five children together whom they raised in West Jordan, Utah. They eventually separated later in life, however they still remained friends. She was primarily a homemaker during the upbringing of the children.

After their children were raised, she decided to return to the workforce as a way to fill her time and worked for Walmart starting out as a stocker eventually ending as a fitting room attendant up until her retirement at the end of 2020. She adored her co-workers immensely.

Outside of work, Debi loved the outdoors, with a fondness for Yellowstone National Park where she spent many summers camping as a child with her parents and her grandfather. In later years, as a family Yellowstone was an annual trip as well. A highlighted travel trip of hers was to the Republic of Georgia and Amsterdam.

She loved to crochet and would make blankets and hats for family and friends. She loved genealogy and documenting the family tree and history. Her most recent discovery was of lineage to the Macgregor clan of Scotland through her maternal side of the family. She adored her many pets over the years, she had a particular love for dachshunds especially as well as any cat she met.

She is survived by her children: Nick Brooks (Niki), Greg Brooks (Jordan), Lissa Riggs (Travis) and their children, Kimberly Beard (Trevor) and her step-children. She is preceded in death by her parents and hers and Ronald's eldest son, John.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff at Huntsman Cancer for their care of Debi during this challenging time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to PBS, National Park Foundation or Huntsman Cancer Institute.
