Douglas "Doug" Allen Payne

Oct 29, 1966 Feb 14, 2025

Douglas Allen Payne, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on February 14, 2025 at the age of 58 in Sandy, Utah. Doug was a passionate caretaker for his family and spent his days trying to keep everyone around him safe, comfortable, and filled with love.

Doug was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, mountain climbing and anything else as long as he was surrounded by friends and family. He spent his early adult years in the Navy working as a radioman. When he left the military, he returned home to Jacque, his high school sweetheart, whom he eventually married.

After working in retail for several years, Doug joined the railroad as a Rail Carman and found a home. He worked there until illness took his ability to work and he was medically retired. Especially after this transition in his life, Doug was a source of encouragement inspiration to Jacque and his family to be ready to overcome life’s expected and unexpected challenges. And he did it all with a smile, even when he was sick, hurting, and struggling himself.

Doug and Jacque welcomed a daughter, Brooke, who become the light of his life. He cherished and protected her every day and in every way he could. You could never find a prouder papa who encouraged her to be a great fashion designer and supported her in everyway he could, including driving her everywhere.

Doug made friends easily and often. He was a favorite among his myriad nieces and nephews, teasing them into giggles and smiles. Doug was the embodiment of Random Acts of Kindness. From protecting parking spots to waiting outside to escort his family home, the small things were an inherent part of his nature. Doug always had a positive attitude and tried to see the best in everyone. He tried to encourage everyone to be the best they could be.

Doug had many varied interests and he was always learning about something new. He loved all forms of music from classical to reggae to hard rock, was learning to play the guitar, and loved when his daughter played her violin. He was learning more about gemology and the world around us.

Doug was active with in the Blessed Sacrament Parish and found great comfort in his faith and community.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jacque; daughter Brooke; mom YeVonne Neemeyer; father, Stanley Payne; step-mom, Toni Payne; brother David Payne, sister Summer (Jason) Grider; and numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and one great-great niece.
