Floyd was known for his love of jokes, dedication to teaching of and serving Christ, and his beautiful deep bass singing voice. He cherished his time with his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
It was due to a singing engagement for the Republican Party Convention in the summer of 1968 that Floyd's life took a beautiful turn. He was introduced to Kathie Gubler, who accompanied him on the piano for the event. They began dating and were married December 20, 1968, in the St. George Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and eternity. Their shared love of music blossomed into a 56-year marriage filled with love and devotion.
Floyd dedicated his career to education, touching the lives of countless students in small town Nevada high schools. Following his graduation from State College of Southern Utah in 1971, he took his first teaching position in Eureka, Nevada. A year later, he transferred to Austin, Nevada before settling in Beatty, Nevada in 1975. He would spend the next 33 years teaching at Beatty High School. He was a respected and valued member of the community, known for his dedication to his students and his ability to bring learning to life.
Beyond the classroom, Floyd was a dedicated father who instilled a love of exploration and practical skills in his children. He often took them exploring the trails of the Nevada desert, teaching them about the unique plants and animals that thrived there. Under the vast desert sky, he shared his knowledge of the constellations, sparking a sense of wonder about the universe. Recognizing the importance of self-sufficiency in their remote community, he also taught them woodworking and household repairs, skills they would carry with them throughout their lives.
Floyd was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Central America, sharing his love of the gospel.
