Gary Nathaniel Ballard

Apr 13, 1958 Sep 7, 2024

Gary Nathaniel Ballard, 66, passed away on September 7, 2024. He was born on April 13, 1958, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to James Allen Ballard and Reah Marie Lamoreaux. He married Michele Ballard on June 18, 2008, in Hurricane, Utah.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Gary spent his days roaming the desert, riding horses, spending time with family, and finding trouble whenever he could. During his sophomore year in high school, his family moved to Cedar City, Utah, where he honed his carpentry skills helping his father build Jim’s Town on his grandfather’s old farm in Hurricane, Utah, as well as working on various projects in Kolob. After graduating from Cedar High School, he attended SUU and nearly earned a degree in architecture but had a change of heart and pursued a career in building instead. He married Maryanne Voss, with whom he had a son, Skylar. After three successful divorces (not simultaneously), Gary finally married the love of his life, Michele, and lived out his days happily at their home and on the mountain. He loved in the same way he did everything—fast, hard, loudly, and completely.

Gary is survived by his wife Michele; his mom Joan; his sister Laurie (Jeff); siblings Kelly (Elena), Ginger (J.R.), Penny (Larry), Scott (Connie), Kurtis (Susy), and Janet (Joe); his children Skylar (Jen), Terina, Alex, Jason (Shannon), and TJ; his grandchildren Autumn, Cheyenne, Taylor, Tytis, Bridger, Jade, Tucker, Taten; his great-granddaughter Makayla and his uncle Bill (Ann).

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother David, sister Kathy, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

The family would like to express their gratitude to IHC Hospital, palliative care, and rehabilitation staff. Special thanks to Becca (palliative care) and Carli (hospice), and all those who have taken such great care of Gary.
