November 14, 1945 – August 16, 2025
Gilbert W. Carroll, beloved veteran, mechanic, and compassionate animal rescuer, passed away on August 16, 2025, at the age of 79.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Born on November 14, 1945, Gilbert enlisted for service in the United States Marine Corps in 1963, answering his nation’s call during a turbulent time. He saw combat in Vietnam, serving with honor and courage—a commitment that shaped his values and outlook throughout the rest of his life.
“He bravely cleared Vietnam tunnels to protect others.”
A Passion for Automobiles
After completing his military service, Gilbert returned home and pursued his passion for automobiles. Settling in Wisconsin, he launched a career as an automobile mechanic. After a few years in Wisconsin, Gil returned to California and worked various jobs, but spent most of his years as a mechanic for Aramark, where he was responsible for maintaining their fleet of vehicles from 1982 until his retirement in 2018.
Interests and Hobbies
Gilbert maintained deep affection for the Marine Corps throughout his life. He was also a competitive shotgun shooter, finding joy and camaraderie in the sport.
A Friend to Animals
Later in life, Gilbert’s compassion found new expression in rescuing senior dogs. His home became a sanctuary for older dogs in need, and he found great comfort and companionship in their presence. His kindness made a difference in the lives of many animals, and his legacy of care will be remembered by all who knew him—and by the many dogs who found a final, loving home with him.
Gilbert’s life was marked by devotion—to his country, his craft, his hobbies, and the animals he loved. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow Marines, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
A memorial and burial service for Gil has been scheduled for November 14th at 1:00 at 17111 South Camp Williams Road Bluffdale, Utah
