Glenda Rose Bonner passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2020, from complications of diabetes. She was 82 years old.
Glenda was born in New Orleans, LA, the first of 5 children, to Lynn Joseph Ourso and Eloise (Cook) Ourso. She moved with her family to Richmond California in August 1945, where she attended school, graduating from Richmond Union High School in 1955. She met her future husband, Richard Lee Bonner, in 1952. Richard also attended RUHS, but they did not begin dating until he was home on leave from the United States Air Force in November 1954. He asked her to marry him June 9, 1955. They were married December 24, 1955 and moved to Roswell New Mexico where Richard was stationed. They returned to California in 1957 after his discharge where Glenda dedicated her life to raising their four children. Glenda and Richard celebrated 48 years of marriage before Richard died in 2004.
Glenda and Richard joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints June 14, 1968 and remained faithful members throughout their lives. She held many callings over the years, most recently as Family History Center Coordinator in Sonora, California, before Richard’s death September 15, 2004, when she moved to Turlock, California to live with her son Chris and his family. There she served as a Relief Society teacher and Ward Historian.
In December 2015, Glenda broke her leg from a fall, requiring surgery. Upon her release from the hospital, she moved to Georgetown, California to live with her daughter Cathy and son-in-law Tracy, where she lived until her passing.
Glenda was creative and enjoyed working in the fiber arts, including crochet, quilting and counted cross stitch, among others. She created beautiful counted cross stitch Christmas stockings for each of her 15 grandchildren, which they all treasure. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was faithful in sending out birthday cards to each member of her family.
Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Bonner, parents, Lynn and Eloise Ourso, her sister Delores Ann Ourso, and her brother Jerry Jay Ourso. She is survived by her sisters Billie Jeanette Womack and Dorothy Lynn Hicks, her four children, Debra Lee Girardot (Jimmy), Cathy Lynn Bowman (Tracy), Christopher Ryan Bonner (Sharon) and Richard Kevin Bonner (Eliza), her 15 grandchildren, and her 34 great-grandchildren.
She was buried next to Richard in the Carter Cemetery in Tuolumne California, with just her children and their spouses in attendance, in compliance with the current social distancing requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She had requested that no funeral be held at her passing, so her timing was excellent.
