Beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed peacefully away on October 6, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 10, 1923, in Salt Lake City to George Woodruff Hendry and Helen Eliza “Nell” Cox. He married the love of his life, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Enola Waterlyn, on July 30, 1947. They were married for sixty-one wonderful years before Gwen passed in 2008.
Grant graduated from South High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serin World War II, and was in the naval reserve when he was called to serve in the Korean conflict. After the military, Grant spent the bulk of his career working at Hill Air Force Base in a variety of positions. He took every training opportunity offered to him and eventually retired at the age of fifty-five. Gwen and Grant spent the years raising their family and enjoying the company of their extended family. They spent hours playing cards with the regular bunch and were close with the Hendry, Waterlyn, and Erickson families. After retiring, they loved loading up the camper and setting off for adventure with their family and friends to camp, fish, and play golf.
Grant is survived by his brother Gilmer, sister-in-law Jeanne, his three children Gale (Nancy) Hendry, Ginger (Tom) Silvers, Gar (Nadine) Hendry, seven grandchildren, Sunny (Eric), Amy (Matt), Janie, David, Lisa (Jake), Annette (Lucky), Nash, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog, Skipper. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gwen and his brothers Gordon and George.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Holbrook Funeral Chapel at 3251 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 South Highland Drive in Millcreek.
