Wales, UT—Gwen Phelps Steadman (aka "Newg"), our angel wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away at age 73 on Sept. 6, 2017 surrounded by her husband and children. Gwen was born to Orval and Florence Phelps on Sept. 9, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the second of eight children. Gwen leaves behind a legacy of love. She was dedicated to her family whom she cherished and loved unconditionally. She also dedicated her life to serving others. Her best acts of service came in the form of baked goods and handmade items. She was known for her homemade bread and rolls. She was a talented seamstress and loved to share with others. For the past 20 years, she volunteered countless hours at Mayfield and Centerfield Community Center. Humanitarian work was extremely important to her and she blessed the lives of countless people and children throughout the world. She and Marlin cherished their time together as temple ordinance workers at the Manti Temple for 14 years. Gwen was dedicated to the gospel of Jesus Christ. She followed the Savior's example and served in many church positions throughout her life. Gwen married her best friend and eternal companion, Marlin Lee Steadman on Jan. 16, 1964. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on Dec. 4, 1970. They were inseparable and their love story is unmatched. She is survived by her husband, Marlin Lee Steadman and eight children: Shalmarie (Alan) Morley, Saleen (Chad) Nyborg, Amy (Greg) Stevens, Amanda (Greg) Morley, Zaan (Warren) Sterner, Tad (Sara) Steadman, Patrick John (Brittany) Steadman, Halee (Matt) Peterson; 27 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and siblings: Zina, Alan, O.J., Kemp, and Alice. Friends and family are invited to honor her life at a viewing held on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services on Monday both at the chruch. Interment will be in the Wales Town Cemetery.
