1924 ~ 2017

National and international events often influence our lives in unexpected ways. Herb was shaped by The Great Depression and World War II. Born into the Greater Generation in 1924 to Ruby L Trayner and Herbert O Trayner, he enjoyed a typical childhood with his sister, brothers and friends.

At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and trained at Camp Pendleton, Ca and was then sent to the South Pacific and war zone. He served on the islands of Peleliu and Okinawa.

After D-day, on a troop ship heading for home, his division was ordered to China instead of the USA. Their duty was to ride shot gun in open rail cars transporting food and ammunition to Chiang Kai-shek who was at war with Mao Tse-Tung. Herb returned home late in 1946.

During the post-war period he tried several none-challenging jobs. Now married with a child, he decided to build his own house with the help of a carpenter friend. That was stage one to organizing Trayner Construction. He developed land, built many houses and large apartment complexs.

Herb was a fine artist, specializing in still life, ( oils ) and portraits ( pencil ). He enjoyed time at the Brannon Art Ranch in New Mexico. He was generous and donated many paintings to worthy causes. He was honored to be asked for three paintings now hanging in the Huntsman Cancer Center.

He enjoyed following Janet across Western Europe and Asia, boating at Lake Powell, and painting on week-ends. He dearly loved his family, his boat's, tennis and ice cream. Herb leaves behind his wife Janet of 68 years, daughter Rebecca, son Mark ( Claudia ), grandchildren Jessica and Andrew, great grandchildren, Amaya and Alliyah, brother Dennis.

Procedded in death, father, mother, sister, brother and 2 infant sons, Kevin and Kurtis. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate a thoughtful, kind and quiet man who will be sorely missed.
