Ilean Marie Metge Reeves passed away at her home in Santa Clara, Utah, on 1 August 2025. She was born 15 November 1961 on the Canadian Air Force base in Grostenquin, Moselle, France, the youngest of four children of William F. Metge and Fay Coleman. She grew up in Courtenay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. At age 17 she left home to attend Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. The following summer she moved to South Salt Lake City to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Tish and Gary Sessions, and their family. While there she began dating Brian Reeves, whom she married in the Logan Temple on 14 February 1981.
Ilean and Brian lived in Logan, Salt Lake City, Sugar House, Kearns, South Jordan, Riverton, and Santa Clara, all in Utah, where they raised their five children: Jessica, Logan, Amber, Riley, and Lane.
Ilean was a passionate handywoman, gardener, and artist. Her artistic endeavors included calligraphy, cake decorating, oil painting, pencil drawing, pottery, and sculpture. Many people have received her art pieces as gifts. One of the favorite periods in her life was being a suburban farmer in Riverton, where she lived among her extended Reeves family for 23 years. There she helped care for a passel of sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, geese, cows, pigs, and rabbits. She loved animals. Over the years she also had dogs, cats, and birds. Our family dog Maui preceded her in death by just nine days.
She welcomed many people into her home. She was a surrogate mother to Japanese exchange students for over five years, helped nurture her in-laws who shared her and Brian's home in Riverton, and hosted scores of overnight guests in the home she and Brian shared with Dave and Judy Reeves in Santa Clara.
She battled courageously against ever-increasing physical and mental adversity, including diabetes beginning in the 1980s; anxiety, 1990s; stiff person syndrome, 2000s; and food allergies, 2020s. Attributes that served her well in these struggles were her stubbornness and feistiness.
She was a firm believer in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and made a conscious effort to follow His teachings and study His word.
She is survived by her husband, Brian; children Jessica (Ben), Logan (Michelle), Amber (Kory), Riley (Rachel), and Lane (Hailey); grandchildren Kelden, Spencer, Kollin, Jaysen, Treyson, Tyler, Avery, Lincoln, and Atlas; and siblings Tish (Gary), Murray (Bennie Jean), and Mark (Julie). She was preceded in death by her parents.
We wish to thank Jerica Olsen and Makayla Barker, who helped Ilean maintain a clean home for the past several years; Rosalie Scholes and other good women who ministered to Ilean by regularly visiting and taking her to lunch and the temple; doctors, nurses, and aides at the St. George Regional Medical Center; nurses and aides from IHC Hospice Care who took such good care of her in her last days; and our family and friends who enveloped us in love during her final illness. A special shout-out to Dave Reeves, assisted by his wife Judy, who quietly took charge of administering Ilean's medications and ensuring that she was comfortable right up to her last breath.
