James A. Black, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 13, 2025.
Born on July 7, 1940, in Murray, Utah, to Archie and Florence Simons Black, James lived a life filled with passion and love. He found joy in restoring classic cars, boating, Lake Powell, woodworking, and, most importantly, spending time with his cherished grandchildren.
His greatest joy in life, however, was acting as the devoted caretaker and faithful companion to the love of his life, Carma. James and Carma were married in the Salt Lake Temple. James believed deeply in God and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had faith and cherished the gift that we all get to live with those we love as an eternal family.
James is survived by his loving wife, Carma Black; his sons, Bret (Charmaine) Black, Tony (Liesl) Black, and Justin Hutchinson; his grandchildren, Kasey Black, Megan Black, Konrad Black, Hali Hutchinson, Mitchell Hutchinson, Nikole Hutchinson, Pierce Black, and Ainsley Black; and his great-grandchildren, Kaisley Black and Cohen Black.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Florence Black; his sisters, Dora, Janet, and Joan; his father-in-law, Hyrum DeLoney; and his beloved daughters, Barbara and Allison Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the LDS chapel located at 3070 East Nila Way, Salt Lake City, Utah 84124. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
