It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Kent Hodson. He passed peacefully on November 26, 2022, in Orem, Utah, surrounded by family, at the age of 79. He was born in Ogden, Utah on September 30, 1943, and raised in Plain City, Utah by his parents Benjamin Clarence Hodson and Norma Elizabeth Kotter (both deceased). His older brothers Keith Hodson (deceased) and Ronald Hodson looked after him with affection and devotion throughout his life. Even devoted friends seemed unable to forge closer bonds.
He married his cherished companion, Sylvia Ann Brady/Hatch, on December 31, 1966, in Sacramento, California. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in February 1968. Sylvia passed peacefully on October 15, 2022. and prepared the way for Kent to follow just a few weeks later - as she always has.
Kent is survived by his six children and their spouses: Treaver and Diana, Treaci and John Tagg, Rebecka and Rand Croxall, Branddon and Kristy, Corbrett and Kerri, Cammeron and Jacki, 25 grandchildren and their spouses, and nearly 12 great grandchildren.
He loved family, his faith, going on long drives with Sylvia, solving math problems, and drawing on AutoCAD. He graduated from Weber State University and Utah State University with Engineering degrees. He started his Civil Engineering career with the State of California, but soon found his way back to Utah where he worked at Thiokol Corporation, near Brigham City, Utah, for over 30 years. There he was known as the FEO (Field Engineering Order) King, completing more than 900 FEOs throughout his career - an unmatched feat he celebrated long after his retirement in June 2005.
During his early childhood, Kent loved to run, bale hay, play cowboys, shoot guns, skate, and sled. A lifelong debilitating bout with Muscular Dystrophy progressively limited his mobility, which restriction he managed with exceptional grit and courage into adulthood. Later in life, after retirement, he used his scooter to give his grandchildren delightful excursions around the home and yard. It was always unclear who enjoyed the excursion more.
