John "Jack" Burgess Carpenter

Sep 13, 1932 Jul 18, 2026

John "Jack" Burgess Carpenter, 93, of Orderville, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2026.

Born on September 13, 1932, in Anderson, Indiana, Jack dedicated much of his life to serving his country and his community. He proudly served in both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy before continuing his career as a U.S. Border Patrol agent, police officer, and later as an undercover investigator helping businesses uncover fraud. His career reflected a lifelong commitment to protecting others and standing for what he believed was right.

Jack lived in Nevada for 25 years before making Utah his home for the past 30 years. Although he spent many years in Orderville, he always hoped to one day live in Cedar City, making it especially meaningful that it will be his final resting place.

Jack was a strong-willed and determined man with a sharp wit that those who knew him will remember. In the later years of his life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, bringing a sense of peace and a gentleness that marked his final chapter.

For 34 years, Jack shared his life with his devoted companion, Jane Grudier, whose love, care, and companionship meant so much to him, especially during his later years.

Jack's ashes will be interred with Full Military Honors at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Cedar City on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. sharp. Family and friends are invited to join as he takes his final ride to the place he had long hoped to call home.

Jack will be remembered for his years of military and public service, his determination, and his sharp wit.

May he be accepted into the arms of Christ so he may rest in peace.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
