Joey was taken from us on July 3, 2019 in a senseless act of violence.
Joey was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rick and Darla Allen on Sept 11, 1978, the first of their three special blessings. Joey’s greatest joy was being a loving son, father, brother and uncle. Joey enjoyed serving and helping others, which led him to work in several customer service-oriented jobs. Joey spent most of his life in the Salt Lake area, where he attended Bingham High School.
Joey could make you laugh no matter what type of day you were having, and with that gift he made many, many friends. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was willing to drop everything to help his family and friends. He would always find the positive in the negative and was never “politically correct.” His greatest love was his kids and doing right by them. He was the biggest, die hard Raiders fan, and he let people know it’s “Raider Nation” and it’s “their year this year”, every year.
Some of Joey’s favorite things to do were reading anything he could get his hands on, camping with his family, watching football, going shooting with his Dad, being the fun Uncle and participating in the Nieces and Nephews events to the fullest, always being there for his family, whether it was physically or just on the phone talking and so much more that just can’t be put into words at this difficult time.
“"One of a Kind"”
Joseph is survived by his children who are the light of his life, Darla “D” (20), Jaida (15), Joey II (12), their mother, his ex-wife, Shirlee who always had a place in his heart, and two twin girls that were also in Joe’s heart. Also survived by his parents, Rick and Darla Evans Allen; his brother Rory (Natalie); sister Tauni and many nieces and nephews he adored, with one niece he was always there for, his Rikeshae; and many other loving relatives that will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by other family members who were waiting for him with open arms.
We would like to thank family and friends for all their donations, kindness and support during this difficult time. Thank you, also, to the staff of Larkin Mortuary for their care, to Joseph’s place of employment, Maverik Corporation, for reaching out and doing everything they can to help, and the residents at Compass Villa for their love and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends and family can visit from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made into his children’s trust fund at www.gofundme.com/4hzj79-joey
