Karen Stanworth July 13, 1944 – August 26, 2024

“In bad times and good, I have never lost my sense of zest for life.” ― Walt Disney

Karen Helen Butterfield Stanworth, age 80, sadly left our world on August 26.

Karen was born in Tucson, Arizona to her mother, Ailene Caldwell. She was later adopted by her father, Roy Butterfield. One of her childhood highlights was going to Disneyland soon after it opened.

Karen was set up on a blind date, and only agreed to go because her date had a new convertible. She went home from that date and told her mom she was going to marry that boy. Later that year, Karen was married to Melvin Stanworth and they enjoyed 44 years together until he passed away in 2006. They were blessed with three children; Debbie Weeks, Craig Stanworth, and Cheri (David) Carroll, seven grandchildren; Austin Weeks, Jessica (Grey) Sorenson, Michela Weeks (Colton), Nathan (Haley) Carroll, Brandon Carroll, Alex Carroll, and Emily Carroll. Karen was delighted to welcome her first great-granddaughter earlier this year, Ginny Sorenson. Karen remained close to her cousins. Karen didn’t have siblings, so after she married Mel, she loved being part of Mel’s family.

Karen had a gift of making friends and bringing friends together. She went on many camping trips, vacations, cruises, canyon visits, work lunches, plays, painting classes, and more with groups of friends that were so especially important to her. She also went on many trips to Disneyland, Disney World, Disney Paris, Disney Hawaii, and on Disney cruises.

Karen served in many stake and ward callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Stake Young Women’s president, Relief Society President, Primary President, Activities committee, Primary President, and was currently serving as the Primary Secretary. She enjoyed each calling and the opportunity to serve others.

Karen worked at the Utah Department of Agriculture for the state veterinarian for over 20 years. We love you and you will be missed. Thank you for sharing your talents and teaching us to live life to the fullest!
