Kay McNamara

Oct 30, 1933 Jan 23, 2023

Kay McNamara, of Murray Utah, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on January 23, 2023, from complications of pneumonia. She was born October 30, 1933, in Ogden, Utah to Ralph and Alta Juanita McNamara. Kay enjoyed keeping life simple. She was adept at keeping everything systematic and had a minimalistic mindset.

After graduating high school Kay, a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, shared her testimony as she served a church mission. Kay was extremely organized with sharp secretarial skills including shorthand writing and served her entire mission in the mission office.

Kay was an avid reader and had a natural love of learning. Her favorite genera of books were mystery novels with Agatha Christie being her favorite Author. Her love of learning helped her pursue a bachelor’s degree in Library Science. Kay carried her passion for reading and love of books into her career as a librarian at Alta View and Hill Crest High Schools. She encouraged students to also love learning. After retiring from the Granite School District Kay enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Kays generous nature and gentle kindness has been an inspiration to those who knew her. She had a caring heart and a desire to help others. She looked for ways to brighten someone’s day through a phone call, visit, mailing a card, or leaving a generous tip if she found out the waiter at a restaurant was a student or working two jobs.

Kay is predeceased by her parents Ralph and Alta Juanita McNamara and her siblings Joan Christiansen, Ralph G. McNamara, Carol Smoot, and Virgina DeHart. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Lee, Debbie, Jody, Steve, Brent, Jeff, Kathleen, and Roger.
