Ruth Johnson, a beloved and wonderful woman of great faith, a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on September 7, 2024, at the age of 82.
Ruth was born on October 6, 1941, to August and Leah May Lewis. Ruth was a Provo girl and loved living near family and had many close cousins. She was the baby of the family and is now celebrating with all her loved ones who have gone on before her.
Ruth met her sweetheart Merlin when she was just 13 years old. Merlin joined the military. They exchanged many letters and were married on July 27, 1960, in the Manti Temple. The couple welcomed 4 wonderful children, Danny, Loreli, Bryan and Merlene. They enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time together at horse shows and sporting events. They supported their children in all their endeavors.
Ruth went to beauty school and worked many different jobs. She learned the art of doll making. She was awarded many ribbons on her beautiful dolls. She taught many friends how to make dolls, running a business in her home with the help of her husband Merlin. She worked at BYU in the Fine Arts dept.
Ruth was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including relief society president and girls camp director. She worked in the temple for many years. She loved the gospel and had a very strong testimony. She was a choice daughter of Heavenly Father.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merlin, grandsons Dustin and Jarod Johnson. She is survived by her children: Danny (Lisa), Loreli (Russ), Bryan (Michelle), and Merlene (Todd); grandchildren: Michael (Jenilynn), Hanah (Marshall), Jonathan, Justin (NaKayla) Trent (Kylie), Travis, McKenna, Ashlynn-Kate and Jason; great grandchildren: Christian, Paityn, Ellie, Brayden, Bowden, Jayden, Hailey, Riley and Kessler; and a dear friend Daryl Perkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Sunset 9th Ward Chapel, 1560 South 1100 West, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
