Linda Sue Westfall Murphy- Beloved Mom, Nana, Sister, Aunt, and a friend to many, passed away on January 08, 2025, after a long struggle with Dementia. Mom was 84 years old. Born September 24, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The eldest child of Scott and Adelaide Westfall.
Mom spent 11 ½ years in Phoenix, Arizona. She attended West High School but then moved to Ohio in her Senior year. They traveled back to Phoenix so Mom could graduate with her class at West High School. However, West High School would not allow her to do this, so she graduated from Boardman High School in Youngstown, Ohio. She attended Ohio State for her Freshman year. She then moved to Salt Lake City on New Year's Eve, 1959. Mom graduated from Steven’s Henager College in 1961 and Mid-Valley Jr. College. Mom married Edmund Philip Murphy on December 29, 1961, and divorced in 1977.
Mom was enthusiastic about life! She was happy whether she was on a sailboat (especially her sailboat), hiking in Zions, Moab, or in her backyard in the canyons of Salt Lake City. Mom was an avid Bridge player and member of The Newcomers Bridge Club. She spent most of her time volunteering all around the city later in life. She volunteered at the U of U Gymnastics, The Capitol Theatre, and the Utah Olympic Oval. If you wanted to spend time with her, you had to work around her volunteer schedule! Mom traveled all over to watch the Utah Women’s Gymnastics competitions and truly enjoyed every minute!
She is survived by her son, Scott (Kristie) Murphy; her daughters, Meggi Ludlow, and Marne Murphy; her grandchildren, Nicholas Murphy, Christian (Jenna) Murphy, and Alexander (Rachelle) Langley; Oliver (Becca) Parker; her sister, Sandra (Rich) Niederhauser; a niece and nephew and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Adelaide Westfall, and her cherished and beloved dog, Muphy.
We want to thank the staff of The Ridge-Cottonwood, where Mom spent the last six years. They treated her with kindness, love, and respect, and we will be forever grateful for all of them.
There will not be a funeral; the family will gather to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Best Friends Animal Society or the Utah Alzheimer’s Association.
