Lora Gaye Bybee

Jun 16, 1933 Feb 10, 2025

Our talented, tenacious matriarch, Lora “Gaye” Bybee passed away on February 10, 2025. Born June 16, 1933 in Plain City, Utah, to Royal Gilbert and Ivy Tracy Skeen Carver. Gaye lived a life full of dedication, creativity, and love for her family. On December 10, 1954, she married Calvin “Reid” Bybee in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Gaye grew up in Plain City and graduated from Weber High School in 1951. She began working for the Ogden School District, where she met Reid, her eternal companion. After their marriage, she devoted herself to raising their seven children, filling their home in Uintah, Utah with the gospel, music, and delicious home-cooked meals.

Once her children were raised, Gaye returned to the workforce, spending many fulfilling years at Bell Photography. She treasured the friendship she made there and spoke fondly of those days.

Gaye’s many talents enriched the lives of those around her. A gifted musician, she played the violin in her youth and went on to serve as a dedicated pianist and organist in church for over 50 years. She took great joy in playing hymns for her grandchildren’s baptisms, sharing her love of music with generations.

She was also a skilled seamstress, sewing clothes for her children, crafting countless baby blankets for loved ones, and hand-quilting thoughtful gifts. Her passion for sewing often led to hours spent in her sewing room, working on projects that brought joy to others

Many people, including her children and grandchildren, will remember Gaye for her cooking. Her home was always filled with the comforting scent of fresh rolls, cakes, cookies, and she always had a full spread of food available for anyone who stopped by.

Gaye loved having her large family come together and hosted many get-togethers in her home in Uintah. She worried about her loved ones, insisting on a phone call whenever someone traveled to make sure they made it home safely.

A true fighter, Gaye overcame incredible challenges with resilience and determination. After a serious accident in 2015 that left her with a broken neck, Gaye bounced back and continued to live her best life.

Gaye is survived by her children, Laurie Bybee, LeAnne Maycock, Bradley (Becci) Bybee, Kevin (Laura) Bybee, Kelly (Jennifer) Bybee, Christopher (Tiffanie) Bybee, and Jennifer (Troy) Miller; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reid; her parents; her siblings, Ivy “June”, Nadine, and Thair; her grandson, Cameron Bybee; and her daughter-in-law, Tiffanie Bybee.

All are welcome to join us in celebrating Gaye’s life with a musical tribute on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Uintah 1st Ward Chapel, 6660 South 1775 East. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Uintah Cemetery.
