In Loving Memory of Matt Ewing
Matt Ewing, born May 29, 1968, passed away October 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Matt was born in Ogden, Utah, and raised in Clearfield, Utah, before later making his home in Hurricane, Utah.
Matt was one of those people who could bring fun and laughter wherever he went. He was smart, adventurous, funny, and always ready for a good time. He had a curiosity about life and a way of making even ordinary moments into memories.
He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting on the family land and fishing with his brother, Brannon. He loved sports and proudly supported the L.A. Chargers, Philadelphia Flyers, N.Y. Yankees, L.A. Lakers, and the newly acquired Utah Mammoth. He also played Fantasy Football every year for many years and always enjoyed the competition and camaraderie that came with it.
Matt proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. His military service was an important part of his life, and his family will always be proud of the courage and dedication he showed in serving his country.
After his military service, Matt worked on the Neuro-Rehab and brain injury floor at IHC in Murray, Utah. He had a natural ability to connect with people and continued to give his time, patience, and talents to others. He became known as the “patient whisperer,” a name that reflected the special way he could reach people and make them feel understood.
And then there was the Grateful Dead.
Matt was a true Deadhead. Music wasn’t simply something he listened to—it was part of who he was. He loved the freedom, energy, and spirit of the Grateful Dead and attended hundreds of shows throughout his life. Along the way, he became part of a community that shared his love of the music, the journey, and the experience. Those who knew Matt will always associate him with the music he loved and the joy it brought him.
More than anything, Matt loved his family and friends. He treasured the people around him and the time they shared together. He also had a special place in his heart for the family Yorkie, Yazhi, who brought him plenty of happiness, companionship, and probably more than a few good stories.
Matt is survived by his parents, Brent and Toni Ewing; his brother, Brannon Ewing (Tori Abbott Ewing); his niece, Mariah Rios (Nate Rios); his great-niece, Danni Ewing; his great-nephews, Dominic Cleverly and Brixton Rios; his great-nephew on the way, Baby Rios; his niece, Jerika Iglesias (Andre Iglesias); and his great-nephew, Ace Iglesias. He is also survived by his aunt, Laurie Quartuccio, affectionately known as Doodie, (Joey Quartuccio) and their family.
Matt will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, his adventurous spirit, his love of the outdoors, sports, music, and, most of all, his people will remain a part of us.
He leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind stories—the kind that will be told again and again, usually with laughter. He leaves behind songs that will bring him to mind, places that will always feel a little more like him, and moments that cannot be replaced.
Though Matt is no longer with us, the memories he gave us will live on—in the places he loved, the music he listened to, the adventures he took, the stories we tell, and every good time shared together.
