Maurine Matheson Davies, 80 peacefully completed her earthly journey on Friday November 29, 2024. Maurine was born on May 28, 1944 to Kenneth Howard Matheson and Virginia Cooper.
A story that began as a blind date quickly became a legacy of love and family when she married Glen Ensign Davies in the Salt Lake Temple on December 17, 1965. Together they toiled and nurtured lasting memories with their 5 kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Maurine’s joy could be felt and seen anytime she witnessed her posterity doing what they loved.
Maurine was many great things but she will be remembered most for her love of quilting. It wasn’t her attention to the details or her perfect points she meticulously crafted that made her quilts meaningful. It was her ability to show her love in every stitch. Anyone who received one of them knew they were holding in their hands a personalized work of art from her heart. She leaves behind many treasured heirlooms.
Maurine was known to rearrange her Saturdays to be able to catch a U of U football game. Lover of all things Utah Jazz. While some might be fair weathered fans, Mom stayed committed until the game buzzer sounded.
One of the highlights of her church service was with Glen when they dedicated 5 years to loving and serving those in the Salt Lake City Inner Mission.
Maurine is preceded in death by her husband Glen, son Scott, brothers Howard (Marlene) and Robert (Carol). She is survived by her children Lee Ann Gardner (Paul), Jeff (Kristine), Daughter-in-law Robyn Davies (Scott Temby), Matthew and Alison Thomas; 16 grandkids and soon to be 7 great grandkids; sister Barbara Burton (Dave), brother Doug Matheson (Vickie).
As a family we want to thank the Wellington, Canyons Hospice and Beyond Senior Care for stepping in when and where we couldn’t as Maurine’s family. Her last month was enriched due to their gentle and compassionate care of her.
Services will be held On Saturday, December 7 with a viewing starting at 11:00 am until 12:15 pm followed by the funeral at 12:30 at the Valley View Stake Center building located at 2245 E 3900 S Salt Lake City Utah
