Melissa Marie Cahoon, age 43, passed away at her home on Nov. 11, 2022 due to health complications associated with a lifelong battle with lupus. She was born Nov. 28, 1978 to Mark and Julie Lowe in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Melissa, or Lissy to those that knew her and loved her, had a soft heart and a fierce spirit. She loved spending time with her family and found immense pride in watching her two sons grow; they were her greatest joy. She enjoyed the outdoors and made countless trips to Wyoming, Montana and the mountains of Utah with her extended family. She could always be relied upon to stay out by the fire until the last ember burned out. Despite having been to the same places countless times, she had a knack for getting lost on the way there and becoming the subject of a family search party to bring her to the camp site.
Lissy was a huge lover of animals and always seemed to find room for just one more. She was known on multiple occasionsto bring home a “stray” that she “found” on her walk home from elementary school and vigorously petition her parents for why said strays should be allowed to stay. Lissy was always happy to watch a pet for friends or family and even foster those in need of a home whether or not her own cats and dogs were on boardwith the visitors.
Lissy always had a tender spot for those who were struggling or downtrodden. She had a way of finding those in need of help and a loving embrace. Her own life struggles and challenges helped her empathize with others and make them feel loved. She was quick to come to the defense of her loved ones and let them know she had their backs.
Melissa is survived by her sons, Riley (Amanda) and DallenCahoon, her husband, Patrick Sohn, her parents, Mark and Julie Lowe, her grandparents, Chuck and Reah Collard, her brother, Matt (Katie) Lowe, her nephews, Dax (Vannessa) and Aiden Lowe, her niece, Olivia Lowe, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 10:30am on November 19, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2550 Shields Ln (9800 S) in South Jordan. Visitation will occur one hour prior from 9:30-10:30am. Her ashes will be laid to rest alongside her grandparents, Chandler and Mildred Jones, who preceded her in death.
