Melvin 'Drew' Drewry Long passed away on January 13, 2023, at the age of 80. Drew loved spending time with his family, nothing made him happier than playing with and teasing his grandchildren. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and served faithfully in several callings.
Drew had a love of all things but thoroughly enjoyed genealogy, western movies, sweets, sports, coaching, guns, and the United States of America. On January 11, 1962, he married the love of his life, Elisabeth Boot.
“You can be the poorest man but if you have your family you're rich.”
Drew was a kind, caring and fun-loving gentleman. He made friends everywhere he went and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Drew wanted to be a cowboy like John Wayne, but since he was born in the wrong era, he settled for being a police officer. He started his career with the South Lake Lake City Police Department where he retired as a Chief of Police.
Drew was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, and frequently said "You can be the poorest man, but if you have your family you're rich."
In honor of Drew's love of law enforcement, his family would like to donate to the Davis County FOP Foundation which supports, law enforcement families, and community members in need each year at their annual 'Cops and Kids' Christmas shopping events.
While Drew might no longer be with us, his memory will last forever!
