Born on September 7, 1932 in New York, New York to Samuel and Rosalind Wagreich, Michael Mark Wagreich (Mike) passed away at his home in Salt Lake City on April 28, 2023 at the age of 90. He predeceased his brother, Herbert Wagreich. Mike grew up in New York City and attended the University of Vermont for college.
Mike was husband to the late Beverly Barrett Wagreich, originally of Montpelier, ID, whom he met while working in the menswear industry in New York. They were married in 1961, and through travels in the west to spend time with Beverly’s family, Mike fell in love with the beauty of the mountains. In 1974 Mike and Beverly and their two daughters, Wendy and Lisa, moved to Salt Lake City.
Mike became the owner and operator of The Village Ltd. Mens’ Store, first located at 224 So., 1300 East. Eventually Mike moved the store downtown, just off West Temple. For nearly 30 years Mike worked six-days-a-week in the store and was devoted to his customers, forming many lifelong relationships with friends he met in the store.
Mike was a peace-loving justice advocate with a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed photography and had an excellent eye for detail. Michael and Beverly were dedicated fans and supporters of the arts, and regularly attended jazz concerts, the symphony, and ballet. Mike loved spending time hiking and being outdoors, which in retirement became a dedication to golf. Mike’s “golf buddies” remained a devoted part of his life, especially after the passing of Beverly in 2016. Mike was also a deeply loved grandfather to Lindsey, Kylie, Ben, and Lily, and in his final days became great-grandfather to Margot. Mike’s constant companion was his beloved dog, Sassy.
