Michael "Mike" Potter passed away peacefully at home in Ivins, Utah, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by those who loved him.

Born on January 19, 1945, in Long Beach, California, to Donna (Bue) and Harold Potter, Mike lived a life defined by service, hard work, loyalty, and a healthy appreciation for a good laugh. If you knew Mike, you knew he rarely met a stranger and always had a story to tell.

Mike spent his early years moving between Montello and Elko, Nevada, and Roy, Utah, before attending Grant High School in Portland, Oregon. At just 17 years old, Mike proudly joined the United States Navy, serving four years on active duty. He later continued his military career in the United States Navy Reserve as a Seabee. Over the years, he rose to the rank of Senior Chief. While the Navy officially gave him that title, his family made sure he never truly retired from it—to them, he would always be "The Chief."

Following his active military service, Mike attended college and built a successful career as a journeyman electrician and a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He took great pride in a job well done, believed in doing things the right way, and could likely spot a mistake long before anyone else noticed it.

Mike married Randi in 1978, and together they made a home in Custer, Washington, where they raised their two daughters, Jaime and Courtney. After Randi's passing in 2019, life surprised him in the best possible way when he reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Vicki. Together, they spent his remaining years sharing laughter, companionship, travel, and the joy of finding each other again after so many years—proving that some love stories truly deserve a second chapter.

Mike loved traveling wherever the next adventure led, spending time outdoors with a fishing pole in hand, volunteering at IBEW reunions running the gun shoots, taking photographs, watching sports, and enjoying a round of golf—even if the scorecard occasionally suggested the course had won. He loved playing cards and cribbage and was never one to pass up the excitement of a casino. He also had a lifelong love of animals and opened both his home and his heart to many beloved pets over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna (Bue) and Harold Potter; his wife, Randi (Williams) Potter; his sister, Judy (Riggs) Edgar; and his nephew, Darren Copeland.

Mike is survived by his beloved partner, Vicki Broomhead; his loving daughters, Jaime Potter and Courtney Potter; his treasured grandchildren, Hailey Potter and Isabelle Creelman; his sister-in-law, Kelly Williams; his nieces and nephews; Vicki's family, whom he loved dearly; and many lifelong friends, fellow Seabees, and IBEW brothers and sisters.

Mike will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering work ethic, and the remarkable way he made people feel like family. He taught those around him the importance of showing up, paying it forward, working hard, and always lending a hand. Whether surrounded by family, friends, or his beloved four-legged companions, Mike was happiest when everyone was together. His stories will continue to be shared at gatherings for years to come—and chances are, they'll get a little better with each telling, just the way Mike would have liked.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Zion Hospice and the medical team at St. George Regional Hospital for the exceptional care, kindness, and good humor they provided during Mike's final months.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 1pm on August 7, 2026, at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, St. George, UT 84770. Family and friends are invited to wear Mike's favorite color, blue, or any color that brings you joy. We truly want this to be a celebration of his life; please come ready to share a smile and a tale or two.
