Mar 11, 1948 Jun 16, 2024

Michael Scott Harmon passed away on June 16, 2024 in Pleasant Grove, UT at the age of 76 from pneumonia resulting from COVID-19. At the time of death, he had advanced dementia.

Michael was born in Tampa, Florida on March 11, 1948 to George Literor Harmon and Elaine Mercedes Brosi. He was the second born of their six sons. Michael’s father, George Literor Harmon, was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. The family relocated to military base locations their father was stationed at in areas such as Tampa, Florida; England; Biloxi, Mississippi; Shreveport, Louisiana; Sacramento, California; and Riverside, California.

Michael graduated from high school in Riverside, California and then attended the University of California at Riverside. After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he attended Utah State University and studied physics, psychology, and accounting. Professionally, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years and was a partner in two different accounting firms.

Michael was married in 1978 to his former spouse, Randelle Willcox. Together they welcomed two daughters and two sons and raised them in Salt Lake City, Utah; Cody, Wyoming; and Corvallis, Oregon.

Michael enjoyed tinkering and performing science experiments with items such as Van de Graaff generators, Tesla coils, CO2 lasers, fuel cells, jet engines, rocket motors, and Geiger counters. He learned to play the trumpet at school while growing up. His favorite song to play was Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White. He liked to listen to bands such as Pink Floyd and Ace of Base while cruising around town. TV shows he watched included Star Trek and MASH. Up until the time of his passing, he particularly enjoyed sitting in the sun. People who knew him appreciated his humor, generosity, thoughtfulness, kindness, and his unique charm. His family fondly remembers his robot walk and iconic catch-phrases. Being a father was one of his significant joys in life.

Michael is preceded in death by his former spouse, Randelle; parents, George and Elaine; brother, David Harmon; and brother, Thomas Harmon. He is survived by three brothers: George (Rebekah) Harmon, John (Gail) Harmon, and Daniel (Carolyn) Harmon. He is also survived by his four children: Jessica (Ash) Johstoneaux, Shannon (Matthew) Stanley, Mark (Aubri) Harmon, and Keith (Amilyn) Harmon; and his soon to be ten grandchildren, all of whom call Utah home.

Michael’s family will hold a small family memorial and the interment of his ashes will be in Salt Lake City, Utah. They would like to thank the professionals and staff at Holladay Health and Mission Alpine Valley Care Center for compassionate care of their father.
