Nita Jo Perry, 70, of Oxford, KS passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital in Wichita, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 31, at the Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. Private interment will take place at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, May 30, from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dunamis Church, donations may be left in the care of the Oxford Funeral Service – PO Box 123 Oxford, KS 67119.
Nita was born October 6, 1951 in Porterville, CA to parents Billy Joe and Esteleen Lanora (Huse) Perry. Her family moved to Ada, OK where she graduated from high school and later received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from ECU. She was married to Richard Gargis in 1970. She was later married to William A. Ward in 1980. Nita spent most of her adult life in Oxford, KS raising her two children. Nita wanted to help better peoples’ lives, so she became a parole officer, working in Tulsa, Sumner County, and at the Cowley County Courthouse for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, poetry, crocheting, cooking, and taking care of her plants and cats. Nita’s favorite holiday was Christmas, she loved making Christmas candies, and singing. Nita’s faith was very important to her, she was a devout follower of Christ, and a member of the Dunamis Church, the Aglow International group, and the Four Corners Emmaus Community.
Survivors include her daughters Cherri Farha and husband Curtis, and Heather Lambert and husband Craig; grandchildren: Alec and wife Hannah, Conner, Tom and wife Kenzie, Brett, Hanna, Rickey, Joshua, Isabella, Michael, and Avery; great-grandchildren: Vivian and Faylyn; siblings: Connie Miksits, Shelby Harden, Patty Mitchell, Kim Shields, Shawn Perry-Caesar, and Michale Perry; and adopted mother Shirley Perry.
Nita is preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Rita Wiggins, infant sibling Forrest Perry, and her beloved cat Sammy.
