Norman "Norm" Maurice Larson

May 23, 1940 Jul 3, 2024

Norman Maurice Larson, beloved husband, father, Papa and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on July 3rd, 2024. He was born May 23rd, 1940, in Gunnison Utah, to Maurice Larson and Norma Jensen. Norm graduated from East High School and continued in his post secondary education at the University of Utah. In 1959, he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Carole Matern. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity on August 25, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.

As an only child, Norm’s greatest desire was to have a large family and they were the single most important thing to him and he loved them unconditionally. His love for his family was his motivation for enduring such a debilitating diagnosis. Norm enjoyed participating in outdoor activities with them such as boating, bbqs, walks at the park and various events and sports his children and grandchildren participated. He was an avid BYU and Utah sports enthusiast and especially loved watching the football games. Norm was a gifted musician with a natural talent for music. He was an exceptional pianist and had a self- taught, beautiful singing voice. Those who knew him felt blessed by his generosity in sharing his musical talents.

Norm’s professional career started as a General Manager of retail clothing stores, which took his family to Idaho, Utah, Virginia, Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming. He moved his family back to Salt Lake City in 1980 where he started Western Empire Financial, a commercial lending company.

Norm was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2011 and his triumph over every challenge made him a legend amongst healthcare professionals that considered him a walking miracle. The genuine nature in which he came to know and love his team of doctors and nurses made him their “favorite” and he enjoyed long lasting friendships and support. Special thanks to all those that cared for our dad with gentle kindness, expertise, and attentive care.

Norm embraced a deep spiritual connection with our Savior, Jesus Christ and lived a life of unwavering faith, embodying His teachings through acts of kindness, love, and devotion. He read and studied spiritual teachings often and his big and compassionate heart led him to serving those in need. He had numerous callings while serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and especially loved his assignment working at the Utah State Prison and his service of 13 years at the Jordan River and Draper Temple where he met and made many friends.

We find comfort in the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and through our Savior's Atonement and Resurrection, we will be reunited one day. Norm’s legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire and uplift all who were blessed to know and love him.

He is survived by his loving wife, constant companion and copilot, Carole Larson, who humbly served and cared for him, his children, Todd (Tracy) Larson, Darren (Kim) Larson, Kimberly (Kevin) Kehl, Darrick (Kendra) Larson, Heather (Steve) Gagon, Mandy Larson (Waco Taylor), daughter-in-law Kimmie Larson, 42 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Damon Larson and his parents.
