Omar Alonso Piña of Durango, Mexico, 31, born December 19, 1989, passed away in an accident on August 19, 2021. Omar attended Crescent Elementary, Union Junior High, and graduated in 2008 from Hillcrest High school in Midvale, UT. Omar's sweet spirit and compassion for others, in addition to his passion for wrestling and weightlifting, led him to be named "Mr. Hillcrest 2008."
Omar had a love for his Mexican roots and moved to Durango, MX, in 2008, where he met and fell in love with his "bubba" Daniela (Dany) Sosa. They had a passion for adventure and travel, and on their vacation to Cancun in December of 2019, Omar proposed to Daniela.
Omar continued his studies in Mexico and earned his master's degree in education. He was most recently a professor of English at Universidad Tecnológica de Nuevo Laredo and additionally a tutor for children. Omar's love for teaching and his students was unparalleled. He was always available and was dedicated to their success. Mr. P., as his students called him, was incredibly respected and loved by his peers and students.
Omar also had a love for bicycling and fitness. When he wasn't working on his six-pack, he was riding his bike and visiting family and friends. His family in Mexico won't forget how he would always stop by with a giant smile and fruit to share.
Omar would bring everyone together and light up the room with his laughter and smile with family and friends both in Utah and at home in Mexico. He had a special and unique relationship with each person in his family. He always showed unconditional love and compassion for everyone around him.
Omar is survived by his parents, Hector Sr. and Concepcion Carrillo, and his brother Hector (Sara), with whom he had an incredibly close relationship. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded by his grandparents.
