Paul Leonard Olson

Jan 28, 1969 Dec 21, 2025

Paul Leonard Olson passed from this mortal life on December 21st, 2025, at age 56, at his home in Farmington, Utah. Son of Charles Leonard Olson & Linda Adele Olson, he was born on January 28th, 1969, in Ellensburg, Washington. He was the fourth of five children.

Although he lived for a short time in Ellensburg, and several years in Price, Utah, his high school and college years were in Logan, Utah. He considered Logan his home, and when asked where he was from, would always respond, “Logan.” In Logan he attended Sky View High School, where he was a part of the swim team and competed and won at a region level. He graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield in 1987. He had many friends in Cache Valley, but none so dear to him as his brother, Reed. Until the bitter end, Reed has been a rock and has watched over him, shouldering a burden his immediate family no longer could. We also deeply appreciate the significant efforts of his other brothers, Dave and Bob, in helping him with thoughtful advice as well as opening their homes to him many times for months, even years at a time. We are so grateful. His dear sister and “best buddy,” Ann unwaveringly showed him Christ-like love as a child and never hesitated to provide her shoulder for him to cry on.

Paul served an LDS mission in Torreón Mexico and many church callings throughout his life. He went on to graduate from Utah State University with a Bachelors in Parks and Recreation. In 1995, he married Susan Fawcett and during their 26 year marriage they had 2 daughters together: Jessica and Mattie. They built their first home in East Layton, their second home in the Pheasant Point area of Lehi, and their third home was purchased in Cedar Hills. They divorced in 2020.

Paul took his camera everywhere, taking videos and pictures of his daughters to capture every little precious moment of their growing up years, which his daughters cherish to this day. He loved spending time with his daughters and dedicated every Friday night, from the time they were little, to “girls night.” One night a week that was dedicated to them. He did anything his daughters wanted to do from Nickel Arcade to Liberty Land / Trafalga, Lagoon, Legacy Center, swimming, and watching countless children’s movies, many of which were princess related.

Paul had an amazing work ethic and steadfastly provided for his family. He worked in real estate for a short time, and the LDS church. His life-long career was in international shipping, which began at Hanjin Shipping. He then worked for over a decade at SSA Marine Shipping, and his final international shipping job was at Senator Lines.

While working at his final job in this field, co-workers began to notice cognitive decline and oddities in his behavior. Paul was sent to a neurologist and after extensive medical appointments and tests, learned that malignant high blood pressure had caused traumatic brain injury affecting his frontal lobe. After surviving this life-altering brain injury, Paul faced many profound struggles with his mental and emotional health. During this time he was also diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Those who knew Paul before his injury remember a man of high energy, quick wit, and deep kindness. While his traumatic brain injury and later years in life presented significant challenges and altered his path, his family will always cherish the memory of the man he was before his injury. The memory of him, as such, will be deeply missed. At the time of his death he was working as a security guard for Boeing.

He is survived by his daughters, Jessica and Mattie Olson, his ex-wife Susan Olson, his mom, Linda Adele Olson, and his siblings Reed (Shelby), Bob (Michelle), Dave (Paige), and Ann (James), along with many other nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A private, family memorial service will be held in his honor.
