On Monday, January 4, 2019, Phyllis Elaine Reid Nelson, loving Mother of four children, and many grandchildren peacefully passed away at the age of 90.
She was born to Clyde Emmett Reid and Nina Manilla Butts October 27, 1928 at 4:40 am in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the fourth child of seven children.
She married Keith LaMarr Nelson on April 8, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later divorced but remained friends until his death in 2002.
As a teenager she volunteered at Sam Wellers book store with his daughter Rachel, she worked at Keeley’s cafe, Sweets Candy Company and Dan’s Foods for 23 years. She attended South High School. She won a trip to Jamaica in 1981 for selling the most Stoneware at Dan’s.
She is survived by her four children Carrie (Mick), Valarie, Keith II, and Effie (Michael) . She had 16 grand children, 20 great grand children, 5 great great grand children, many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Wanda Termine, sister-in-law Shirley Reid and brother- in- law James Mullaney. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Brother J. Kenneth Reid and Sisters Nina Thomson, Dorothy Mullaney, Audrey Reid, and Rosalie Josephson.
Her donation of her body to Science was typical of her helping others.
A Memorial will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 8575 S 700 E, Sandy, UT 84070. On Saturday March 16, 2019 at 10:30 am.
Her name will be engraved on the Celebration of Life wall at Salt Lake City’s Library Square. There will be a event at the Monument on Saturday, August 24, 2019 9:00am-11:00am located at 500 South 300 East,, Salt Lake City, UT (South East Corner).
