Our fun loving family patriarch Rex William Law left his family and friends on April 9, 2025 to join his faithful companion, Jake, (Siberian Husky), who’s now barking with joy and licking his face.

Rex was born on April 7, 1942, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Charles and Edna Law. He grew up in Paris, Idaho, and graduated from Fielding High School in 1960. He continued his education at Idaho State College and later attended Weber State College.

In 1962, Rex married Lynette Pugmire, and from this union came a son, Mark, and a daughter, Michelle. Though the marriage ended in divorce, Rex then found lasting love with Carol L. Dietrick (formerly Hill). They were married on March 23, 1973, and together blended their families, eventually welcoming a daughter, Tiffany.

Rex built a long and successful career in the tire industry, earning a reputation as a respected and knowledgeable “tire man.” His work took him across the Mountain West, including Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah; Rock Springs, Wyoming; and Denver, Colorado. He retired from Tire Distribution Systems (TDS) in December 2008, after 20 years of dedicated service.

An adventurer at heart, Rex lived life fully. He found great joy in the outdoors—whether hunting in the mountains, riding snowmobiles and ATVs, or chasing antelope. He traveled the world with his beloved wife, Carol, by his side. Together they explored Europe, cruised the Caribbean, and twice journeyed to Alaska.

When not traveling, Rex could be found square dancing with the Sandy Squares, sharing stories and jokes with his friends between songs. He also particularly loved spending time in Wendover playing in slot tournaments. Yet, perhaps his favorite place of all was the family cabin he built with his family in Fairview, Utah. Rex found peace watching the deer from the deck with a cup of coffee every morning.

While Rex made countless friends during his lifetime, his heart always belonged to his family. Affectionately known as “Dad,” “Grandpa Rex,” and “Gramps,” he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rex passed away peacefully, holding the hand of his loving wife of 52 years and surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife Carol, son Mark (Molly), daughter Michelle (Lonny), son Brad and daughter Tiffany, and sister Esther; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Stephen Todd Hill, his parents as well as his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah, 84117 beginning at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Burial At Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S., Millcreek, Utah 84117,

Rex wanted his service to be a “Celebration of Life” and wanted people to be comfortable. Casual or western attire is highly encouraged.
