It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Hayden Llewellyn (Yogi) the morning of March 30, 2025. Yogi passed away at The Bennion Central Veterans Home in Payson UT. Richard was born February 2, 1943, to Hayden and Twyla (Hansen) Llewellyn in Fairview Utah.
He was raised in Fairview with two brothers and two sisters. He graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1961. He then entered the United States Navy going to Boot Camp in San Diego CA. February 1st, 1962. He served on the USS YTM 148 from May 9, 1962, to May 15, 1963. The USS Arnold J. Isbell (DD 869) June 18, 1963, to May 14, 1966. He was honorably discharged on May 23, 1966. After being discharged, he moved back to Utah taking a job at Trojan Explosives in Spanish Fork UT. Where he worked for 30 years. In 1999 he moved to Explosive Energies in Springfield, Missouri and worked there for 10 Years.
In 2011 he returned to Payson Ut, so he could be with family. In the last few years, he lived at Bennion Central Veterans home in Payson UT. He had his small place there and made it his home. He was surrounded by all the things he loved, close to the people that he loved and that loved him. Richard was passionate about his home being orderly, and he loved his depression era colored glass. This hobby or love of glass was shared by many in his family. He also loved antiques, and bears. One of his hobbies was woodworking, and he spent a lot of time making things with his hands. Richard could cook, he put many family dinners on. One of the things he was famous for was his carrot cake. He loved sharing it with everyone he loved. These carrot cakes were to die for. They even made money at family reunions. He was an awesome brother, son, uncle and friend. He had many friends and if you were a friend to him, you knew you had a lifetime friend in Richard. He was generous, kind and lived a life of gentleness and he will be greatly missed. Richard is survived by his sister, Sarah Carolyn Seely, Payson UT; brother in law, Gene, Cortez, CO; nephews & nieces, Stewart (Erin), Goodyear ,AZ; Preston (Summer), Santaquin, UT; Justin, Payson, UT; Becky (Don), Cortez, CO; Debby, Cortez, CO; Larry Dean (Val), Cortez, CO; Nancy (Morris), Buffalo, KS; Gwen (Brad), SLC, UT; Julie, Idaho; Michelle (Tony), Bakersfield, CA; David (Susan), Bakersfield, CA; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Twyla and Hayden, his sister Juanita and brothers Nolan and Keith. Brother-in-law Stewart Seely, nephew Kay, and a great niece, Jessica.
Richard has deep roots in Fairview, he always called it home. He loved the west hills and toured them as often as he could. He will be joining a great many of his family members, on those west hills. Richard‘s legacy of kindness, loyalty and humor will be cherished by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
