Richard Alma Hill (Dick/Uncle Al) passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10th, 2022 with family by his side.
Dick was born on September 9th, 1932 in Salt Lake City to Mary and David Hill. He is survived by his two sons, Scott, of Spokane, Washington, and Stephen and his wife Shannon, of Fort Collins, Colorado. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, in addition to many nieces and nephews. His greatest joy in life was his beloved wife of 65 years, Bertha (deceased), children, grandchildren and his third Schnauzer, Sammy.
Dick will be greatly missed by all who knew him. As a veteran, Dick served his country for 4 years as a medical corpsman in both the Navy and the Marines during the Korean War. Dick had a long and successful career as a General Manager for Unisource Paper Company. After retiring from Unisource, and as an avid skier, he began his 2nd career at Snowbird Ski Resort as a Mountain Host. He served there for 20 plus years, only recently retiring. Dick was truly a master at woodworking, a perfectionist who could do or make anything. He touched the lives of countless people through his special and magical woodworking skills and abilities. He actually purchased his current home because he could build his own amazing wood shop on site. For many years, that wood shop has been the awe and secret desire of many ‘would be’ builders. Additionally, Dick will be remembered for the beautiful yard that was always perfectly manicured. He always kept immaculate and colorful flower beds and gardens which were admired by everyone who saw them.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Solstice Hospice, and especially to Sunrise Senior Living Center of Sandy, for their kindness, generosity and compassion during these difficult times.
