Richard was born on September 17, 1929, to Walter Peter Cramer and Amy Elizabeth Rawle in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the third of thirteen children and loved telling stories of his childhood in rural Ucon, Idaho, where he learned the value of hard work from a young age.

Richard was a gentle giant with kind eyes and a genuine smile. He was calm, humble, kind, trustworthy, and a true example of quiet dignity. A busy man throughout his life, he had many talents and hobbies. He built homes, “Richard-rigged” just about anything to make or fix it, and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. Beverly kept him busy with many items on her “honey-do” list, and he was always happy and willing to help her and others without complaint.

While visiting his brother in Provo, Richard met the love of his life, Beverly Dawn Staheli. Captivated by his warmth and kindness, she soon fell in love with him. They were married and sealed for time and eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple on August 17, 1950, at 11:50 PM. Richard was 20, and Beverly was 19.

Shortly after their wedding, Richard was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. His time in the military had a profound effect on him, and in his later years, he often spoke about his experiences serving his country.

After completing his service, Richard dedicated himself to providing for his growing family. Together, he and Beverly raised five children, moving between Utah and Nevada, though they always considered Enterprise, Utah, their true home.

Richard was a hardworking and respected professional throughout his life. He retired in 1993 after serving as the head of facility maintenance at Enterprise High School. Before that, he worked for U.S. Steel at the Columbia Mine in Cedar City, at Jones Paint and Glass in Provo, and at Utah Technical College in Provo. He also owned and operated Caliente Lumber and Hardware Company in Caliente, Nevada, for eight years. Wherever he lived and worked, he developed deep friendships and cherished those relationships.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Richard had a deep love for the gospel and his Savior. He was faithful and devoted to both the Church and Jesus Christ. He served in many callings, including as a temple worker in the Provo Temple, and was called as an executive secretary six separate times. After retiring, Richard and Beverly served three missions together—one in Houston, Texas, one in Spokane, Washington, and a service mission at the cannery in West Valley City, Utah.

Nothing brought Richard more joy than his family. He is survived by four of his siblings and his five children: Garth Cramer (Martha) of Granger, Indiana; Dawnette Procell (Roy) of Payson, Utah; Vince Cramer (Debbie) of Rigby, Idaho; Tammy Heywood (Ed) of North Ogden, Utah; and Donald Cramer (Michelle) of Clinton, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and his precious wife, Beverly.

After 72 years of marriage, Beverly passed away in April 2023. Richard missed her deeply for nearly two years. The week before his passing, Richard shared that Beverly had come to him and told him, “Come on.” He knew his journey on Earth was coming to an end. Wanting to be ready for Heaven, he asked his daughter Tammy—who had lovingly cared for him in her home for the past several years—to give him a haircut so he’d be presentable when he arrived. We are grateful and overjoyed that the two of them are reunited once again.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 1150 East 2600 North in North Ogden, Utah. A viewing was held at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

To our remarkable dad and grandpa—until we meet again, you’ll be in our hearts. Thank you for your extraordinary example. We will strive to live up to it and make you proud. We love you!
